Lift High the Name of Jesus
Keith Getty, Kristyn Getty, Ed Cash, Fionan de Darra

Lift high the name of Jesus
Of Jesus our King
Make known the power of His grace
The beauty of His peace
Remember how His mercy reached
And we cried out to Him
He lifted us to solid ground
To freedom from our sin

Oh sing my soul
And tell all He’s done
Till the earth and heavens are filled with His glory

Lift high the name of Jesus
Of Jesus our Lord
His power in us is greater than
Is greater than this world
To share the reason for our hope
To serve with love and grace
That all who see Him shine through us
Might bring the Father praise

Oh sing my soul
And tell all He’s done
Till the earth and heavens are filled with His glory

Lift high the name of Jesus
Of Jesus our Light
No other name on earth can save
Can raise a soul to life
He opens up our eyes to see
The harvest He has grown
We labor in His fields of grace
As He leads sinners home

Oh sing my soul
And tell all He’s done
Till the earth and heavens are filled with His glory

Call to Worship
Adapted from Psalm 64

Hear me, my God, as I voice my complaint.  Protect my life from the threat of the enemy.  Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked.  They shoot from ambush at the innocent without fear.

They encourage each other in evil plans.  They talk about hiding their snares, thinking nobody will see.  They plot injustice.  Surely the human mind and heart are cunning.

But God will shoot them with his arrows.  They will suddenly be struck down, and brought to ruin.  All who see them will shake their heads in scorn.

All people will proclaim the works of God, and ponder what he has done.  The righteous will rejoice in the Lord, and take refuge in him.  All the upright in heart will glory in him!

Arise, My Soul, Arise
Charles Wesley, Kevin Twit

Arise, my soul, arise
Shake off your guilty fears
The bleeding sacrifice
In my behalf appears
Before the throne my Surety stands
Before the throne my Surety stands
My name is written on His hands

He ever lives above
For me to intercede
His all redeeming love
His precious blood, to plead
His blood atoned for every race
His blood atoned for every race
And sprinkles now the throne of grace

Arise, arise, arise
Arise, my soul, arise
Arise, arise, arise
Arise, my soul, arise
Shake off your guilty fears and rise

Five bleeding wounds He bears
Received on Calvary
They pour effectual prayers
They strongly plead for me
Forgive him, O forgive, they cry
Forgive him, O forgive, they cry
Don’t let that ransomed sinner die

The Father hears Him pray
His dear anointed One
He cannot turn away
The presence of His Son
The Spirit answers to the blood
The Spirit answers to the blood
And tells me I am born of God

Arise, arise, arise
Arise, my soul, arise
Arise, arise, arise
Arise, my soul, arise
Shake off your guilty fears and rise

My God is reconciled
His pardoning voice I hear
He owns me for His child
I can no longer fear
With confidence I now draw nigh
With confidence I now draw nigh
And Father, Abba, Father, cry

Arise, arise, arise
Arise, my soul, arise
Arise, arise, arise
Arise, my soul, arise
Shake off your guilty fears and rise

How Great Thou Art
Carl Boberg, Stuart Hine

O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds thy hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed

Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art

When through the woods and forest glades I wander
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze

Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art

And when I think that God, His Son, not sparing
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing
He bled and died to take away my sin

Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow in humble adoration
And there proclaim, my God, how great Thou art

Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art

Congregational Prayer
From Exodus 34, Proverbs 6, 2 Timothy 2

Gracious Lord,

You are compassionate, and slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. Please deliver us from tolerating the things that you hate.  Forgive us for being proud, for being dishonest, and for pursuing or permitting harm to others.

We repent of our scheming hearts that devise wicked plans.  It is so easy for us to pursue evil and give in to temptation.  When pressed, we easily misrepresent the truth.  We create disunity in our church, homes, and community because we are self-seeking and arrogant.  Our hearts are so easily deceived.

We pray that you would grant us repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth.  In your mercy, forgive our wickedness, rebellion, and sin.

In Jesus’ name.

Amen.

New City Catechism
Question 23

Why must the Redeemer be truly God?

That because of his divine nature his obedience and suffering would be perfect and effective; and also that he would be able to bear the righteous anger of God against sin and yet overcome death.

O Lord, My Rock and My Redeemer
Nathan Stiff

O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer
Greatest treasure of my longing soul
My God, like You there is no other
True delight is found in You alone
Your grace, a well too deep to fathom
Your love exceeds the heavens’ reach
Your truth, a fount of perfect wisdom
My highest good and my unending need

O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer
Strong defender of my weary heart
My sword to fight the cruel deceiver
And my shield against his hateful darts
My song when enemies surround me
My hope when tides of sorrow rise
My joy when trials are abounding
Your faithfulness, my refuge in the night

O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer
Gracious Savior of my ruined life
My guilt and cross laid on Your shoulders
In my place You suffered bled and died
You rose, the grave and death are conquered
You broke my bonds of sin and shame
O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer
May all my days bring glory to Your Name

Sermon

Luke 18:15-17

15 Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 17 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”

Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus
Louisa M R. Stead, Williams James Kirkpatrick

Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus
Just to take Him at His word
Just to rest upon His promise
Just to know Thus saith the Lord

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus
O for grace to trust Him more

O how sweet to trust in Jesus
Just to trust His cleansing blood
Just in simple faith to plunge me
Neath the healing cleansing flood

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus
O for grace to trust Him more

Yes tis sweet to trust in Jesus
Just from sin and self to cease
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest and joy and peace

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus
O for grace to trust Him more

I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee
Precious Jesus, Savior, friend
And I know that Thou art with me
Will be with me to the end

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus
O for grace to trust Him more
