Sooner Count the Stars
Doug Plank, Steve Cook, Vikki Cook

I could sooner count the stars
Than number all Your ways
Though I only know in part
That part exceeds all praise
As sunlight fills the skies
Your goodness fills my life
For all Your precious gifts
Receive my gratefulness

I could sooner drink the seas
Than fathom all Your love
Like a never ceasing stream
Are mercies through Your Son
The death of Christ alone
Deserves eternal song
For such a love as His
Receive my gratefulness

No praise is high enough
No thanks is deep enough
No life is long enough
To tell of all You’ve done
No shout is loud enough
No words are strong enough
No song is sweet enough
To sing Your love

I could sooner turn back time
Than turn Your heart away
Though the years go fleeting by
Your mercies never change
Before You made the sun
Your love was set on us
For all Your faithfulness
Receive my gratefulness

No praise is high enough
No thanks is deep enough
No life is long enough
To tell of all You’ve done
No shout is loud enough
No words are strong enough
No song is sweet enough
To sing Your love

Call to Worship
Adapted from Psalm 99

The Lord reigns!  Let the nations tremble.  He sits enthroned between the cherubim.  The Lord is great, and exalted over all the nations.  Let them praise His awesome name, for He is holy.

The King is mighty.  He loves justice, and does what is right.

Exalt the Lord our God and worship at his footstool, for He is holy!

The people of God called on his name, and he answered them.  He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud; they kept his statutes and the decrees he gave them.

Even though God punishes the wrongdoings of His people, He is still a forgiving God.

Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at his holy mountain, for He is holy!

10,000 Reasons
Jonas Myrin, Matt Redman

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His Holy Name
Sing like never before
O my soul
Worship His Holy Name

The sun comes up, it’s a new day dawning
It's time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing when the evening comes

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His Holy Name
Sing like never before
O my soul
Worship His Holy Name

You're rich in love and You're slow to anger
Your name is great and Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness, I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His Holy Name
Sing like never before
O my soul
Worship His Holy Name

And on that day when my strength is failing
The end draws near and my time has come
Still my soul will sing Your praise unending
Ten thousand years and then forevermore

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His Holy Name
Sing like never before
O my soul
Worship His Holy Name

Congregational Prayer
From The Valley of Vision

Heavenly Father,

May our words and works allure others to the highest walks of faith and love.  May the world be quickened to greater diligence by our example.  May the those who waver be warned of the coming doom by our zeal for Jesus.

Help us to show others the joy of serving you.  Teach us the happy art of attending to the things of this world, while keeping our mind intent on the things of eternity.

Help us to find true humility, to dwell among the poor in spirit, to delight in the gentle ranks of the meek, and to esteem others better than ourselves.

Help us to walk as Jesus walked, in whose name we pray.

Amen.

Question 22

Why must the Redeemer be truly human?

That in human nature he might on our behalf perfectly obey the whole law and suffer the punishment for human sin; and also that he might sympathize with our weaknesses.

Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery
Matt Boswell, Michael Bleecker, Matt Papa

Come behold the wondrous mystery
In the dawning of the King
He the theme of heaven’s praises
Robed in frail humanity
In our longing, in our darkness
Now the light of life has come
Look to Christ, who condescended
Took on flesh to ransom us

Come behold the wondrous mystery
He the perfect Son of Man
In His living, in His suffering
Never trace nor stain of sin
See the true and better Adam
Come to save the hell-bound man
Christ the great and sure fulfillment
Of the law; in Him we stand

Come behold the wondrous mystery
Christ the Lord upon the tree
In the stead of ruined sinners
Hangs the Lamb in victory
See the price of our redemption
See the Father’s plan unfold
Bringing many sons to glory
Grace unmeasured, love untold

Come behold the wondrous mystery
Slain by death the God of life
But no grave could e’er restrain Him
Praise the Lord; He is alive
What a foretaste of deliverance
How unwavering our hope
Christ in power resurrected
As we will be when he comes

Sermon

The Pharisee and the Tax Collector

Luke 18:9-14

9 He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: 10 “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’ 13 But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

His Mercy is More
Matt Boswell, Matt Papa

What love could remember,
No wrongs we have done
Omniscient, all-knowing,
He counts not their sum
Thrown into a sea without bottom or shore
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more

Praise the Lord, His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness, new every morn
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more

What patience would wait
As we constantly roam
What father so tender
Is calling us home
He welcomes the weakest, the vilest, the poor
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more

Praise the Lord, His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness, new every morn
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more

What riches of kindness
He lavished on us
His blood was the payment
His life was the cost
We stood neath a debt we could never afford
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more

Praise the Lord, His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness, new every morn
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more
