Reflection Questions – Judges 6-8, Hebrews 11-12

In Judges 6-8, God changes (saves) Gideon.  And then he saves his people, through Gideon’s ministry.  Are there any other instances in Scripture where we see this same pattern?

Have you seen this pattern manifest itself in your own life?

Are there other people in your life that need God to change them in this same way?

How would you define biblical faith?  Is it something that we manufacture within ourselves?  (If so, how do we do that?  If not, what is it?)

Where do we see faithfulness and evidence of grace in Gideon’s life?

Where do we see sin, folly, cowardice, and faithlessness in Gideon’s life?

Who is the hero of Gideon’s story?  Why?

What does it look like for us to live our lives where God is the hero of the story (instead of ourselves)?

The author of Hebrews commends Gideon as someone “of whom the world was not worthy”, despite his many flaws and mistakes.  (Hebrews 11:32-38)  Why do you think the author does that?

How does the author of Hebrews instruct us to respond, and to live our lives, since we are surrounded by these witnesses like Gideon?  (Hebrews 12:1-2)
