Why is it so important that we believe rightly about the identity of Jesus? How can we be careful to ensure that we are correctly understanding who Jesus is?

 

What are some common misconceptions about the identity of Jesus? What do people today generally think about Jesus? How do you think that false beliefs about Jesus came into being?

 

What does it mean that Jesus is “the Christ of God” (Luke 9:20)? What are the implications of this declaration?

 

How were Jesus’ words in Luke 9:21-22 in conflict with the disciples’ (and all of Israel’s) expectations about the Messiah? Why would they have been difficult for them to hear and accept?

 

What does it mean to “deny yourself”? What does it mean to “take up your cross daily”? How can we, as Christians, be working to obey and walk in these expectations of discipleship?

 

What are some of the things of this world that we run after, and how might they pose a threat to our souls?

 

Are there ways in your life where you might be (intentionally or inadvertently) communicating that you are ashamed of Christ, and the gospel? If so, what would it look like to repent, and to unashamedly believe and represent Christ?
