What are some of the things of this world that you find your soul clinging to for joy, satisfaction, fulfillment, purpose? Why do you think this is the case?

The psalmist says that his soul involuntarily clings to the things of this world (119:25), but that he intentionally strives to cling to the testimony of God instead (119:31). What are some ways that we can be fighting against the tendencies of our sinful nature, and clinging to God’s Word instead?

What are some ways that God answers us when we call out to him (119:26)? How can we position ourselves to hear and listen when He does?

Why does the psalmist pray for God to “enlarge his heart” (119:32)? What does it mean for God to enlarge our heart? Where do you need this most in your life?

What are some of the tools that God has given us to help enlarge our hearts? What would it look like to make use of those tools for the sake of our own spiritual growth?

In Psalm 119:32, the Psalmist resolves to actively work to obey God (run in the way of God’s commandments), while trusting God to sovereignly work in him (enlarge my heart). How can we, as Christians, be working and striving to obey God, while still trusting that only God’s sovereign grace can ultimately change us?
