How would you articulate the main theme of this psalm?

What are the specific sins that David sees and identifies in the world around him?  (12:1-4)

12:3-4 is an example of an “imprecatory prayer” (a prayer for judgment of God against one’s enemies).  Do you think that it is appropriate for Christians to pray imprecatory prayers?  Why or why not?

How does God respond to David’s imprecatory prayer?  (12:5)  What can we learn (about the heart of God, about ourselves, etc.) from his response?

What image does David use to describe the word of the Lord?  (12:6)  What implications can we derive (about the Lord, about His word) from this?

It seems clear from this psalm that God cares about people who are suffering (12:5), and that he cares about the truth of his Word (12:6)?  How can we strive, as Christians, to care about both of these things like God does?

David is careful to ask God to intervene (12:3-4), and to actively trust that God will intervene (12:7-8).  How can we cultivate a similar posture in our own prayer life?  (Where we ask humbly, and trust boldly, at the same time?)

What is one way that you would like to grow in your prayer life?  What steps can you take this week to move in that direction?
