How would you articulate the main theme of this psalm?

What reasons does the psalmist give for why the God’s people should worship him?

149:4 says that God takes pleasure in his people, and in saving them.  Why is this important?  What does it tell us about the heart of God?  What does it tell us about the nature of salvation?

149:4 says that God adorns the humble with salvation.  Why is this important?  What role does humility play in trusting in Christ, and being saved?  What is it about the gospel that tends to attract people who are humble, and repel people who are prideful?

How can we be actively weakening pride and cultivating humility in our hearts, as Christians?

149:6-9 emphasizes the judgment of God of against sin, and identifies it as something that should prompt us to worship God.  Is that your first response when you consider the judgment and wrath of God?  Why or why not?

Do you consider the judgment and wrath of God to be a good thing?  Or a bad thing?  Why?

It seems that the Day of the Lord will be marked by the final and indelible salvation of God’s people (149:4) and judgment of God’s enemies (149:7-9).  With this in view, how can we, as Christians today, be readying ourselves for the Day of the Lord?  How can we be actively preparing for our own eventual death?

How can we be helping other people to be ready for the Day of the Lord?  How can we be helping them to be actively prepare for their own eventual death?
