Why is it important to fix our eyes on Jesus? (12:2)

Hebrews 12:5-7 speaks of God’s discipline and exhorts us to respond rightly to it. How have you despised God’s discipline at times? How has it brought you to despair at times?

How has your earthly father enhanced or distorted your perception of your heavenly Father?

What would you say to someone who claims to be a Christian, but seems to never receive God’s discipline in their life? (12:8)

The Bible tells us that those who truly believe the Gospel will work hard at pursuing holiness, yet it also tells us that God accepts us as we are, regardless of our performance, because of our faith in Christ. What is the importance of understanding this?

Why were Moses and the assembly of Israel so afraid to approach God at Sinai (12:18-21)? How is this different from how we, as Christians, approach Mount Zion through Christ (12:22-24)? How is the New Covenant that Jesus mediates superior to the Old Covenant that it replaced?
